SASUF 2019 RESEARCH AND INNOVATION WEEK

SASUF 2019 RESEARCH AND INNOVATION WEEK

The Symposium is convened under the Theme ‘Sustainable urbanization through research, innovations and partnerships,’ The principal aim of the event is to create a platform for the exchange of knowledge on the current, trans-disciplinary research efforts and share information on practical, innovative urban and rural development projects aimed at systematically responding to the rapid urbanization challenge which faces cities in South Africa, Sweden and the rest of the world. The Symposium places the significance of sound and rigorous research, context-specific technology transfer, system-wide innovations and multi-sector partnerships at the center of endeavors for attainment of just, safe, resilient and sustainable human settlements and cities, as envisaged by the Sustainable Development Goal 11 and the UN HABITAT New Urban Agenda.   
 
The Symposium will focus on the following sub-themes:
Sustainable peri-urban and rural development;
Urban renewal and redesign;
Public spaces and inclusivity;
Urban economy and business development;
Nutrition and food security;
Peace and stability;
Citizen hope and universal happiness;
Curriculum enhancement and system-wide capacity building; and
Cutting edge innovation projects driven through partnerships. 
 
Important Dates
20 March 2019 Submission of abstracts closes.
25 March 2019 Authors notified of the acceptance of their abstracts.
15 April 2019 Submission of Full Papers for review closes.
24 April 2019 Attendee registration closes.
06 May 2019 Presentation of papers in the Symposium.
06 August 2019 Symposium Proceedings published.
 
 
Academic papers located in any of the above topics are invited from emerging and established researchers, industry professionals, development activists from grassroots organisations and the general public in South Africa and Sweden. The papers will be subjected to a double-blind peer review process and included in the electronic proceedings booklet (ISBN No. 978-1-928472-12-4)   that will be published at least three months after the hosting of the Symposium. 
Speakers, presenters and attendees will bear the costs of their travel and accommodation to and from the Symposium.  There is no registration fee payable in attending the Symposium.
